Over the past couple hundred years, arborists have designed ways to classify and analyze leaves. This is done to identify which tree they came from and gain insight into the life cycle of that tree and other important information to further research. Traditionally, the classification process consisted of manually matching the shapes and colors of leaves. However, I've trained a machine learning leaf classification model to speed up the process and allow even those without experience to pursue their arboreal interests. This model was trained on over 5000 images of 20 street tree species native to Philadelphia. For best results, use an image of your leaf on a white background.
